Who is this course for

This roof top course has been designed for workers, managers, safety supervisors, project organisers and anyone involved in working, accessing and controlling people to work safely at height on rooftops within their company and is required to have appropriate competence and certification.

What are the objectives of the course

Putting people to work at height on a roof top can be company minefield, as the implications can have serious consequences if not handled appropriately. If found to be negligent in the operation, control and appropriate training and equipment, you’ll be facing criminal charges and court fines and where negligence or putting profit before safety is proven those fines may be punitive.

By attending this course you and workers will have gained the skills and the necessary understanding, combined with the appropriate specific skills to work on roofs. Therefore not only will you have a much safer environment but also be able demonstrate how you have adequately discharged your legal responsibilities by adopting best practice, efficient methodology, resulting in happier, safer workforce.

Learning outcomes

After the course delegates should be able to work safely at height, having a sound theory of the dangers and risks of working on a roofat height, and have the practical skills in using the appropriate height safety equipment correctly and safely.

This will lead to the candidates being certificated competent to work on a roof safely at height.

Delegates will have a thorough and complete understanding of what is required to work safely at height and achieve better practical standards of health and safety in the work place.

Course content

This Rooftop Working at Height course provides a detailed look into the relevant issues surrounding the roof top access as a whole. Focusing on the level of access required the safety precautions specific to the access available. Anchorage considerations and appropriate equipment selection with regard to suitability for job and work to be carried out on roofs.

This rooftop course covers key subject areas in a logical order from primary considerations through to the correct and safe implementation of chosen equipment and controls for job applications and workers safety.

We utilise strong visual presentations, equipment demonstrations and group exercises and activities in order to fully ensure we engage all the delegates in the training course and maximise information retention. Where possible we included direct association of information for the specific job and clients requirements, which allows us to provide helpful, accurate and applicable safety knowledge and training for their job and scope of activity.

Types of roof access covered on this course:

The course covers methodology for safe access: during roof construction, general access on existing roofs, covering a variety of roofs with different approaches for the following styles:
Flat roofs, slab roofs, suspended roofs, tin roofs, pitch roofs, vaulted roofs, and domed roofs

Consideration is then also given to the specific safe access and anchorage arrangements, and equipment suitability for the following working areas: Hips, Eaves, Valleys, Ridges, Parapets, and Trusses etc.

Practical:

Practical group roof exercise is carried out where workers are currently working live for direct association with tasks and duties and scope of specific roof works.

Learning outcomes

This course will provide candidates with the knowledge and confidence to be competent and certified to work on roofs, dealing with access safety related issues that occur within their working environment on roof‐tops.

Having passed this course candidate will be able to:

Have a good theoretical understanding of roof top height safety.
Be confident practically when working, accessing rooftops at height.
Competently make equipment selection, anchorage consideration for specific tasks on new or existing roof surfaces.
Demonstrate competency in height safety equipment usage specific to roofs.
Achieve better practical standards of health and safety in the work place.

Your ticket to rooftop access safety

Upon successful completion of the course all participating candidates will be issued with a Leading Edge Photo ID card and certification. This documentation is proof of external training certification, identifying the trained competence, thus providing a formal licence to work at height on roofs using height safety equipment.

Additional Bolt-on (Ladder) course

We would recommend that candidates required to use ‘non fixed’ commercial ladders and step ladders to again access to the workplace or as a working platform, should complete our ½ day ladder course, covering everything specific to safely and competently using ladders in a workplace, required to be licensed to operate legally.

The ladder course would ideally be run back to back with the rooftop course on the same day or the next day to maximise the combined associated benefit. Additionally the course would be slightly focused on height safety equipment combined with ladders for use to work and gain access on roofs. This is slightly different from a standard ladder course, as we know by booking them together what your intended use is for with ladders.

Our training is job specific and so in order to provide the most effective training we deliver courses on-site. We provide direct training at your location both nationwide and internationally. So wherever you are, we can deliver the training courses you need.

Our courses last a full half day to ensure candidates receive excellent training and practical assessments. Because our training is held on-site it will minimise disruption and traveling times so you can maintain your workplace schedule.
