Who is this course for

The Level 2 course has been specifically designed for supervisors and management involved in the planning, controlling process of a project that requires work to be carried out at height with open edge exposure.

As a management course the training content is primarily directed at site management but it can also be used to assist those looking for formal instruction and certification, focused exclusively at construction and the site environment.

This course also benefits those who are responsible for selecting and making purchasing decisions looking for insight into product / application / trade suitability.

What are the objectives of the course

This course will give managers a complete understanding of the current working at height legislation, how it affects their site and the ability to adequately discharge their legal obligations.

Delegates are instructed on how to proactively manage these requirements and how to provide maximum safety for those working at height.

Guidance is given to mangers assisting them to know what really works on site when it comes to working at height safely.

Learning outcomes

This course will provide management with the knowledge and confidence in their skills to be competent to manage the height safety related issues that occur within the construction site environment for the large variety of trades found on any project.

We are now also taking names for open enrolment Level2, which will be classroom based, non site courses. This has a fee level of £250 +VAT per person. The course can be run as soon as we have a minimum of 3 people on the course (ie can be 3 individuals from 3 different Companies).

Level 2 course content

Theoretical

This course is about height safety considerations and selecting those most appropriate, where eliminating as much operative risk as possible is critical, focusing on the nature and level of access required, and the safety precautions specific to these issues.

Understanding the scope, limitations and suitability of using temporary methods of work, the course covers in detail these issues to help management decide what to do, and how to go about managing height safety when working day to day and specifically what you can and can’t use when it comes to using equipment for the given application.

Practical

Management are ideally taken on-site for practical site and equipment specific training, followed by a practical assessment of their competence. This provides management with the chance to address any site problems, issues or concerns which the trainer will be able to help in providing there and then local guidance.

The combination of our practical and theory course content has been developed to reinforce management’s application knowledge, to further cement delegate’s competence, building practical experience and confidence.
We utilise strong visual presentations including equipment demonstrations, group exercises and activities, in order to fully ensure we engage all the delegates in the training course and maximise information retention and prevent skill fade.

Management overview:
Safety awareness of working at height within the construction industry

What can and is going wrong on today’s construction sites:
Identifying trends, general misconceptions and bad practice

Managing readiness for work including controlling operative safety:
Understanding, planning and enforcing safe working controls

Construction height safety considerations, methodology and suitability
This section covers fall arrest equipment, work positioning, restraint, fix and temporary systems etc, along with height safety hierarchy considerations, trade and implementation issues

Legal requirements that effect construction
Covers the responsibilities and legal obligations and duties specific to height safety, including HSE enforcement policy regarding proportionality and corporate manslaughter

Legislation
Site management awareness into specific aspects of the WAHR: 2005 and British Standards to ensure full understanding and site/contractor compliance covering:

• Planning
• Controls
• Competence and training requirements
• Hierarchy in selecting appropriate equipment
• Inspections and supervision duties

Course programme
Practical (1 Hour)

Upon completion of the theory, delegates will be taken to their site at height locations (where possible) for awareness and equipment training, followed by a practical assessment of their knowledge and level of competence attained. This provides delegates with the chance to address any specific work problems, or issues they may have about their understanding and the equipment they use on site, and to fill in any blank areas in their job specific knowledge for the future.

Trade specific training

Training is not just about 'Generic Principles', to us it's about improving site safety, awareness and productivity through site and trade specific guidance.

Contractors own site sequence, restrictions and equipment suitability are considered, therefore the training has direct association and adds real value.

Package considerations

For example, where we need to consider the methodology and height safety requirements of a concrete frame build, providing specific guidance covering slabs, columns, walls, shoring, climbing formwork systems we would consider the following:

The access, sequence and restrictions for traditional erect and strike formwork to table systems and all associated issues, such as leading edges and infill gaps.

Where necessary would also consider:

• Floor heights
• Grid size
• Column arrangements
• Anchorage and edge protection

Whether working on the transfer slab with hazards such as holes for sumps, to core access and sequence using jump and slip-form propriety systems etc.

Understanding your training needs

Our training is job specific and so in order to provide the most effective training we deliver courses on-site. We provide direct training at your location both nationwide and internationally. So wherever you are, we can deliver the training courses you need.

Duration - 1 Day (8.30am to 5.00pm)

Our courses last a full day to ensure candidates receive excellent training and practical assessments. Because our training is held on-site it will minimise disruption and traveling times so you can maintain your workplace schedule.
