Who is this course for?

This basic working at height safety training course is specifically designed for anyone whose job requires them to work at height, and which involves them using the necessary height safety equipment to do this work safely.

This course can also benefit the supervisor/manager responsible for those working at height and looking for a basic understanding to better appreciate the activity to control the process safely.

What are the objectives of the course

The aim of this course is to keep it simple and real, whist all the key subject areas are covered of how to work safely at height.

The course concentrates on what the delegate really needs to know for the type of the work being done, for specific applications and work locations.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course the delegates will be competent to work safely at height with a strong hazard awareness and a sound theoretical knowledge and practical experience of using fall arrest equipment

Delegates will have the ability to assess the risks and requirements needed for safely working at height in their scope of work.

They will also be able to use their job specific fall protection equipment with a high level of efficiency and confidence, as well as have the practical ability to utilise the equipment correctly and safely.

We train at your location, helping you solve real on the job issues.

Working at Height Training (Basic) Course Introduction

Working at height today requires an awareness of the inherent dangers in the job being done and the environment in which the work is being carried out.

It needs the worker to be vigilant and have an attitude and willingness to take great care.

Workers need to be trained to achieve a higher standard of competence in order to work safely at height.

Targeted application and task specific knowledge can improve a workers confidence and overall safety and will also go a long way in preventing accidents, serious injuries, and even the loss of life.

The aim of this course is to keep it simple and real, whist all the key subject areas are covered. The course concentrates on what the delegate really needs to know for the nature of the work being done, for specific applications and work locations.

Special regard is given to the level of competence of the worker to ensure that delegates are fully competent and able to identify and be aware of the risks involved and have the understanding and skills to work safely at height .

Free Licence Card Support

If you discover an operative, who was previously trained by us, currently working in an unsafe manner or not adhering to safety practices then you can implement the card licensing system and remove their card authority by cutting off one of the four corners of their licence card.

Following this step, you can then contact Leading Edge and a technical support member will arrange to come on-site and provide additional instruction to the operative and offer site management support Free of Charge.

This will help the staff regain the skills they need to get back to their job and work in safe environment.

Working at Height Training (Basic) Course Content

The course focuses on what you need to know to use the right working at height safety equipment in order to create the safest working environment possible. The course also develops and instructs on safe methods of working according to the trade and specific work applications.

Theory (3 Hours)

This height safety course is broken down into topics relevant to the nature and scope of the work being carried out at height.

Subjects such as the critical importance of correct harness fitting, how to use specific equipment given necessary levels of access.

Understanding anchorage requirements and suitability when working day to day, along with general height safety knowledge on what you can and can’t do when working at height, and what you can and can’t use when it comes to equipment suitable for the application.

Practical (1 Hour)

Candidates will be taken out into their workplace for practical training and to gain real on the job experience.

At this time we evaluate each individual's capabilities and correct any short-comings.

A practical assessment will also allow candidates to voice any concerns or issues they may have about their working environment and the equipment they use.

Our experienced instructors work closely with delegates to provide accurate, safe 'on the job' solutions.

This practical focus will allow the candidate to feel more confident in their abilities and gain a stronger competency for the use of fall arrest equipment relative to the application.

Case Study - Cat Finning

At the plant and machinery company 'Cat' they needed to provide their crews with the best possible height safety training.

Their requirements were unique and they wanted to cover a number of categories of work at height.

We sent in one of our height safety specialists to review 'Cat's' special circumstances and working with them constructed both bespoke course and safety equipment.

The result was a one day course which covered working safely at height on their plant and equipment and also included ladder safety and low height rescue.

Our training is job specific and so in order to provide the most effective training we deliver courses on-site. We provide direct training at your location both nationwide and internationally. So wherever you are, we can deliver the training courses you need.

Duration - ½ Day (8.30am to 1pm)

Our courses last a full half a day to ensure candidates receive excellent training and practical assessments. Because our training is held on-site it will minimise disruption and traveling times so you can maintain your workplace schedule.
