This working at heights course has been designed for management, safety personnel, supervisors, project organisers and anyone who has a responsibility to conduct, control and monitor working at height or make contributions towards fall protection in their workplace.

The content is primarily directed at management but it can also be used to assist those looking for formal advanced understanding in height safety principles within a trade, task and work environment.

We recognise that in today’s tough economy smaller groups, both for Operatives and Managers, to be trained seems to be the norm. Thus these smaller group offerings, whilst still offering site based courses is our way of helping you.

Individual (Open Enrolment) Booking Information

We are now also taking names for open enrolment Working at Heights course, which will be classroom based, non site courses. This has a fee level of £250 +VAT per person. The course can be run as soon as we have a minimum of 3 people on the course (ie can be 3 individuals from 3 different Companies).

Working at Heights Management Course Introduction

This advanced management course gives an in‐depth knowledge around the key areas of working at heights, providing delegates with a complete overview of what is necessary to work safely at height.

From legislation to application delegates are taken through current legislation and how it impacts on their place of work.

Delegates are then guided on how to discharge their legal duties by focusing on the specifics that are relevant to the scope of work, activities and environment, including the techniques, understanding and skills required in managing people working at height.

Any workplace using fall arrest equipment can be potentially at risk of accidents if not properly managed. Careful attention needs to be given to the specific nature and scope of work being done, access and equipment suitability.

Candidates completing this working at heights course will be competent to make informed decisions with regards to planning, through to implementation and control of their
work at heights activities.

Free Licence Card Support

If you discover an operative, who was previously trained by us, currently working in an unsafe manner or not adhering to safety practices then you can implement the card licensing system and remove their card authority by cutting off one of the four corners of their licence card.

Working at Heights - Course Content

This course provides a detailed look into the relevant issues surrounding working at heights as a whole.

It will help assess the nature of risks at their job locations when working at heights and determine the best methods for providing a safe environment.

Focusing on the nature and level of access required, and the safety precautions specific to these issues. Consideration will be given to the scope of works and the appropriate equipment selection which will affect the suitability of chosen method of fall protection.

The combination of our practical and theory course content has been developed to reinforce application specific knowledge, to further cement delegates competence, building on experience and confidence.

Theory (6 Hours)

This working at heights course is about options and selecting the most appropriate height safety methods based on available access through to equipment suitability. The hierarchy of safety provision will be considered. Delegates will look at minimising exposure, while giving consideration to using fall arrest, work positioning, restraint, fix and temporary systems.

Practical (1 Hour)

Management are ideally taken on-site for practical site and equipment specific training, followed by a practical assessment of their competence. This provides management with the chance to address any site problems, issues or concerns which the trainer will be able to help in providing there and then local guidance.

The combination of our practical and theory course content has been developed to reinforce management’s application knowledge, to further cement delegate’s competence, building practical experience and confidence.
The training is directly relevant to your working environment, making it specific, focused and effective.

We utilise strong visual presentations including equipment demonstrations, group exercises and activities in order to fully ensure we engage all the delegates in the training course and maximise information retention and preventing skill fade.

Theory (6 Hours)

This management Working at Heights safety course covers key subject areas in a logical order from primary considerations through to the correct and safe implementation of chosen equipment and controls for job scenarios and workers safety:

Management overview
General awareness of working at height

Controlling working at height
Understanding, planning and enforcing safe working controls

Managing readiness for work including competency and licence card systems

Height safety considerations, methodology and suitability

Covering fall arrest equipment, work positioning, restraint, fix and temporary systems, alongside hierarchy issues and implementation

Legislation's and legal requirements

Covers the responsibilities and legal obligations and duties specific to height safety, including HSE enforcement policy regarding proportionality and corporate manslaughter

Working at Height Regulations 2005

Covers the following aspects of the WAHR: 2005 and British Standards to ensure full understanding and compliance of the requirements for working at height:

• Plan
• Control
• Competence and training

Practical (1 Hour)

Upon completion of the theory, delegates will be taken to their work at height location (where possible) for practical awareness and equipment training followed by a practical assessment of their knowledge and level of competence.

This provides delegates with the chance to address any specific work problems, issues or concerns they have, and to fill in any blank areas in their job specific knowledge.

Practical demonstration and assessment will cover the following areas:

• Group informal risk assessment exercise

Case Study - Cat Finning

At the plant and machinery company 'Cat' they needed to provide their crews with the best possible height safety training.

Their requirements were unique and they wanted to cover a number of categories of work at height.

We sent in one of our height safety specialists to review 'Cat's' special circumstances and working with them constructed both bespoke course and safety equipment.

The result was a one day course which covered working safely at height on their plant and equipment and also included ladder safety and low height rescue.
